Begin with a typical day
Write down how the household moves through a weekday and a weekend. Note where activities overlap, where belongings accumulate and which rooms feel underused. This gives the layout a real purpose.
Map privacy and gathering
Separate visitor arrival from private rooms where the plan allows. Test dining and living arrangements with actual furniture sizes, door swings and the route to the kitchen. A beautiful plan should remain comfortable when people use it.
Choose materials with their setting in mind
Check the light, moisture exposure and cleaning routine of each room. Compare physical samples together rather than approving finishes in isolation. Leave enough time to confirm availability and the details of installation.
Prepare a useful brief
Bring the floor plan, site photographs, household priorities and a budget range to the design conversation. Separate what is essential from what would be welcome if the scope permits.
