Decide what must remain available
List essential access, work areas, toilets, power and communications. An occupied project needs a continuity brief as well as a design brief. Some work may still require temporary relocation.
Test the phases
Review noise, dust, delivery access and isolation of work areas with the appointed contractor. Draw the temporary routes as carefully as the finished plan. Do not assume that a room-by-room sequence is automatically practical.
Allow for what the survey cannot see
Existing ceilings and partitions may conceal service conditions. Agree how discoveries, variations and approvals will be handled. Record retained items so that protection and reinstatement are included.
Plan each handover
Check cleaning, testing, documentation and safe access before returning an area to use. A phased project is complete when each space works as intended, not merely when the visible finish is installed.
